Elderly Care Program - Seed
Objavljeno: 31 May 2017
Early this spring, we surprised our elderly of the Elderly Care program with packets of seeds. This would not have been possible without the generous donations from Brot del Lebens in Ulma, Germany. We gave out a variety of seeds, with the amount depending on the size of the garden the household has.
The basic packets contained 27 kind of seeds: tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, beets, cabbage, chard, spinach, celery, parsley, parsley root, cauliflower, carrots, fennel, lettuce, rocket, coriander, okra, kohlrabi, onion, sage, basil, peas, beans, and a mix of flowers. The value of each packet of seed is around 20 euros. In the first stage of this project, Bread of Life bought packets of seed for 30 families.
All of the recipients were very happy and thankful for being able to plant different kinds of vegetables and flowers this year. Most of them usually plant a garden, but only with very basic vegetables, and just enough for surviving. When we asked them which kind of seeds we should buy, there were no special requests. The most important thing, they said, was for the seeds to produce something edible. Our general impression from everyone that received seed was that this "hit home". We were told that this gift was like the sun shining after a dark day. One grandmother planted onions only a couple of hours after we gave them to her.
